How to clean water and snow marks on your ugg boots

Ugg Boots before and after being washed with a suede/leather shampoo
Be sure to stuff your cleaned ugg boots with newspaper to avoid sagging

The following instructions on how to wash ugg boots are a great idea not only to remove water stains but also to prolong the life and make your boots last.

  1. Brush your ugg boots with a stiff brush to remove surface grime and dirt. If you don’t do this you will only end up washing the dirt and grime into the leather

  2. With a damp cloth gently scrub the entire boot. The aim is to use the minimum amount of water. Too much water and your ugg boots will stretch and lose their shape.

  3. Stuff socks or newspapers inside your boots until the shape appears normal. We don’t want your boots to sag which is much more likely when the boots are damp.

  4. Sit the boot in a dry cool place for 24-48hrs. Do not wear the boots again until they are completely dry or they will stretch. Why can’t you dry ugg boots in the sun or a dry? The heat will cause the boots to wrinkle and stretch, the leathers will be damaged. Ugg boots are super warm but the leathers are quite soft so a little bit of care will go a long way. If the stains are still there move on to the instructions below

How to remove dirt and grime from ugg boots

What do you need to wash ugg boots? You do not need an ugg boot cleaner to clean ugg boots. A suede or leather shampoo will work perfectly and can be found in the shoe section of just about any retail store.

  1. Follow step 1 from above

  2. Mix the leather cleaner and water, following the directions on the bottle for the mixture. Give the boots a good scrub with a sponge and remember to scrub over all parts of both boots. The shampoo will affect the appearance of the boot and so the boots may not look consistent in colour if you only scrub the stain.

  3. Follow steps 3 and 4 from above.

How to deodorize your ugg boots

Why do ugg boots smell? Typically fake ugg boots smell more often than twin face merino sheepskin boots. This is because the cheaper materials don’t breathe which leads to sweating and bacteria.

  1. Follow the cleaning instructions for water and snow marks above

  2. Put 1 tea spoon of baking powder in each ugg boot

  3. Leave the boots for 24-48 hrs then turn the boots upside down to remove the excess baking powder

How to repair rips and tears in your ugg boots?

Professional ugg boot repairs in our opinion are not worthwhile
Professional ugg boot repairs are typcially not worthwhile

A few years ago we offered a service to repair rips and tears in ugg boots. We also offered a service to replace the sole on ugg boots. The average cost of these repairs was close to £30 because our staff needed to spend considerable time replacing soles on worn out ugg boots or carefully unstitching seams and replacing weak and worn out leather. Since this price is over half the cost of a new pair of our ugg boots we no longer provide a professional repair service. If you have a hole in the toe of your ugg boots it is typically caused by buying boots which are too small or letting your nails grow too long. If you have a rip in your ugg boots we will provide you with a discount code providing you send pictures of the damage. Please contact us with a picture of the damage and we will send you a discount code.

Can you dry clean ugg boots?

Do not give your ugg boots to a dry cleaner or put them in a washing machine. Your ugg boots will stretch and lose their shape. If you out your ugg boots in a clothes dryer, in front of a heat or even in direct sunlight to dry they will shrink and lose there shape. Sheepskin is extremely durable and if kept dry will last many years.
